Museum of Ethnography

The Etnography Museum was built on the skirts of the Kopet Mountain,  in the city of Ashgabat. The complex where the museum building is connected to the additional buildings through galleries, is designed as a structure suitable for visiting each function seperately or as a whole. The museum contains archeological findings belonging to the region which is considered as the cradle of civilizations, etnographical materials reflecting the Turkmen culture, exhibition halls that reveal the history of Turkmenistan cronologically, the Independence Hall where the gifts presented to the president and the development stages of contemporary Turkmenistan are exhibited and Zoology Section which reflect the natural beauties of the region. There is also a temporary exhibition area in the museum. The galleries are lightened by modern systems that protect the precious historical artifacts from direct sunlight and by the day light coming from the dome.

The basement of the building is allocated to restoration laboratories, art-design workshops, archive and technical rooms. In the 1st floor there are the entrance and exhibition halls. The second floor of the museum serves as a big exhibition hall which consists of seperate sections while the 3rd floor hosts the administrative offices, advertisement-publication departments and a library. Another important feature of the Etnography Museum is its flagpole with a radius of 3 m and a height of 133 m. This pole was recognized as the highest by the Guinness Book of Records in 2008.

Features of the Building: The Museum of Ethnography is composed of 4 floors, including the basement floor, and 8 galleries, built on a land of approximately 30,000 square meters and has a 15,000 square meters of indoor area.
